Neurodivergence
Do you experience the world differently than others?
Do you feel like you have to put on a “mask” of behaviors in order to fit in or meet people's expectations?
You are not alone.
Perhaps you easily misinterpret social cues, or miss them entirely. People with neurodivergence may also experience rapidly shifting focus, hyperfocus, or difficulty adapting when a situation does not meet expectations.
An increase in awareness of how the nervous system works has led to more people seeking ways to cope with feeling they must fit themselves into expectations that are exhausting and limiting. Others have found that difficulties they experienced as children were dismissed but may have been symptoms of autism spectrum disorders or ADHD. Some individuals received diagnoses as adolescents and find that services or treatment for these conditions are harder to find after you turn 18.
Whether or not you have a formal diagnosis of autism or ADHD, working with occupational therapy can help you gain self-understanding and practical skills in order to participate in our life to your satisfaction.
